Is it worth getting implants abroad?

10 checks before you decide
- Who places the implant? Ask for the name, speciality and experience (years, number of implants).
- Which implant brand? Good clinics name the brand (e.g. MegaGen, Straumann, Nobel) and give you an implant passport.
- 3D scan (CBCT)? Without one, bone, nerve and sinus cannot be assessed safely.
- Written plan with a fixed price. You should know what will be done and what it costs before you fly.
- Realistic timeline. Implants usually need 3–4 months to heal – “everything in 5 days” is not right for everyone.
- Honest talk about bone grafts. Whether you need one is shown by the CBCT, not a package deal.
- Sterilisation and hygiene. Ask how instruments are sterilised and what is single-use.
- Aftercare. How do you reach the clinic once you are home? Are the terms in writing?
- Communication. Do you understand your dentist? Is there support in your language?
